Kakadu is breathtaking! The last time I went it was just for a day trip and I really regretted not staying longer. It's quite extensive and there's a lot to see, and the landscape completely changes between the wet and dry seasons.
Fraser Island is an amazing place and one of my favourite eco-tourism destinations in Australia! The sands are just such a brilliant white, the wildlife abundant and the freshwater lakes ideal for swimming.
There's so many spots along the Queensland Coast where you can encounter the Great Barrier Reef, but the day trips from Cairns can be pretty crowded. If you want a more pristine spot, I'd recommend Lady Elliott Island.
I've encountered the Franklin when trekking in Tassie, but rafting down is still on my "bucket list". Richard Flanagan's "Death of a River Guide" is a really good insight into the power and legend of this river!
I think this is a really underestimated destination in Australia - it's wildly beautiful and has that remote outback tranquility. Saw loads of wildlife too - especially loved the emus!
This is such a beautiful spot to escape Sydney - great walks and waterfalls amongst the rugged landscapes and charming towns to stay in with cosy B&Bs!
