Tasmania, an isolated island state off Australia’s south coast, is known for its vast, rugged wilderness areas, largely protected within parks and reserves. It is located 240 km to the south of the Australian mainland, separated by Bass Strait. The main island is the 26th largest island in the world. Two of the main industries have been forestry and tourism as well as the export of seafood.
