Laxá River, Iceland
Iceland’s primary fishing destination, the Laxá River is known as much for its wild brown trout, as it is for the serene surroundings it offers. Several fishing beats with well-equipped lodges may be found along the course of the river. The Laxá meanders through miles of picturesque landscape, ranging from rolling hills, to gentle green meadows, to striking canyons with majestic cliff sculptures. The river is best accessed from Reykjavik via a scenic highland route. Travelers can also use the opportunity to take a hike or two, or visit the Samansafnid Museum with its curious mix of artefacts.
