Barton Creek Cave – Cayo, Belize
Around 45 minutes from San, Ignacio is an energizing canoe trip into a remote cave utilized by the old Mayans as a burial site and for ceremonial reasons. A visit to Barton Creek Cave includes spending over an hour paddling canoes along an old Mayan conduit inside the mountain. Your aide will call attention to skulls and ancient rarities as you go between stalactites. The high roof, lovely shake streams and church building chambers makes this a delightful spot to the photo. The cavern is decorated with stalactites and stalagmites. Mayan ceramics shards and bones can be seen by the guide's spotlights.
