Grand Canyon

A US highlight!

09/23/2016 - 23:03
The Grand Canyon is definitely a "must" if you're visiting the US, particularly for outdoors enthusiasts. While sunset is magical, wake early for sunrise and you'll escape the majority of the crowds!

Yala National Park, Sri Lanka

African-style safari in Sri Lanka

09/23/2016 - 23:01
I never expected to have an African-style safari in Sri Lanka - but Yala National Park proved me wrong. Saw lots of elephants, as well as heaps of different bird life, although unfortunately no leopards!

Thailand - Khao Sok, South

A good escape from the southern beaches and islands

09/23/2016 - 22:59
Khao Sok National Park is one of my favourite spots in Thailand. The karst limestone landscapes are spectacular, there's good hiking and wildlife viewing opportunities and Lake Cheow Lan in sublime!

Sri Lanka, Kitulgala

Beautiful even outside of rafting season

09/23/2016 - 22:56
I stayed in a jungle lodge overlooking one of Kitulgala's rivers, waking to the sound of bird calls and the river rushing below. It wasn't the right season for rafting, but it was still an idyllic spot to stay!

Mekong River

Encountering the Mekong in Laos

09/23/2016 - 22:54
I've encountered the Mekong River at a few places during my travels, but I think sitting in a cafe in Luang Prabang overlooking the mighty Mekong at sunset has to be up there with the best!

Ladakh, India

Breathtaking scenery and warm villagers

09/23/2016 - 22:53
I spent a few days trekking through Ladakh and it was just magical. The scenery is breathtaking and all the local homestay owners greeted me so warmly at the end of a long day walking - such a perfect combination!

Halong Bay, Vietnam

Visit Halong Bay's villages

09/23/2016 - 22:51
The dramatic limestone islands of Halong Bay rising from the water really are spectacular, but the part I loved most was visiting the village communities who make a living within this landscape.

Great Wall, China

Hike from Jinshanlint to Simatai

09/23/2016 - 22:48
While the sections of the Great Wall around Badaling and Mutinayu can get quite crowded with other tourists, there's some great treks along quieter sections, including the 10km hike from Jinshanlint to Simatai.

Cambodia - Tonle Sap

Relax in a Tonle Sap guesthouse

09/23/2016 - 22:46
Hanging out in one of the guesthouses on the edge of Tonle Sap is one of those quintessential Cambodian experiences, with lots of local comings and goings to take in at the same time.

Bali, Indonesia

Indonesia's tourism hub

09/23/2016 - 20:39
Although Bali has rapidly transformed in the last few years as a major hub of tourism in Indonesia, there's still plenty of opportunity to discover its unique Hindu culture and lush volcanic landscapes. Add to that a great choice of accommodation to suit all types of traveller!
