Sterkfontein Caves, South Africa

Caving - South Africa - Africa

Sterkfontein is a collection of limestone hollows of great interest to paleo-anthropologists, around 40 km Northwest of Johannesburg, South Africa. The Sterkfontein Caves make up the site at which a 2.3-million-year-old fossil nicknamed "Mrs. Ples" was found. Mrs. Ples is a complete skull fossil of humankind’s earliest ape ancestors. This paloe-anthropological wealth makes the Sterkfontein Caves form an important part of the heritage of the Cradle of Humankind. Sterkfontein fossils are a treat for enthusiastic tourists. An hour's drive away from Johannesburg, tourists can enjoy conferencing offices including a top restaurant, access to the caves and walkways that lead to the famous excavation sites.
