READ India - From the Sunderbans to Sikkim to Darjeeling
The Sunderbans borders on Bangladesh and is where the Ganges enters the Bay of Bengal and flows in and around thousands of small islands, some inhabited and some empty. It is an area inhabited by wild Bengal Tigers and huge crocodiles, and where people make their living primarily from fishing. It is here that READ has chosen to build its first library in India, in the tiny town of Ullon, led by a charismatic Ashoka Fellow, Kapilananda Mondal. There are few Alaska trips that offer the quality camping accommodations and Adventure options of the Ultimate Backcountry Safari. This trip combines stays at each of our permanent wilderness camps-Bear Camp, Kayak Adventure Camp, and Kenai Wildlife Tent Camp. Your first days will be spent kayaking and wildlife viewing in Kenai Fjords National Park followed by time at our fly in Bear Viewing Camp in Lake Clark National Park. The safari ends at the tent lodge where you visit the end of the road in Homer, and hike the tundra trails of the wildlife refuge. You can fit in a little fishing if you like.
