Galapagos Family Research Adventure

Our Galapagos Family Research Adventure partners with the Ecology Project International to create a hands-on Galapagos field work opportunity for teens.

Would your teen traveler be inspired to spend a day on your Galapagos family adventure as part of a research team gathering data about exotic species like giant tortoises? Or be part of an international team of volunteers fighting to eradicate invasive species in fragile ecosystems? This special Galapagos family trip includes a chance to learn from local researchers and work side by side with Ecuadorian and international student volunteers for a day as they gain insights into scientific research in Galapagos and tackle conservation challenges through special student programs designed by the Ecology Project International.

In addition to a day of field work in Galapagos, your family will share the joy of discovering the extraordinary flora and fauna voyaging from island to islands throughout the archipelago. Expert naturalist guides explain the fascinating stories how these species have taken on unique behavioral and physical characteristics over eons as they have evolved and adapted to each island habitat. During this 8 day Galapagos cruise you visit major wildlife sites, including some of the more remote outer islands, where you encounter and photograph exotic and bizarre wildlife. You hike among cinder cones and lava flows, kayak along white and black sand beaches and rocky cliffs, and snorkel with sea lions in clear equatorial waters of the Galapagos Marine National Park.

Into the Wilds of the Osa Peninsula

Venture deep into the heart of Corcovado National Park to explore and discover the vast, pristine rainforest wilderness of Costa Rica’s remote Osa Peninsula, identified by National Geographic as “One of the most biologically intense places on the planet.” Based from the premier ecolodges of La Paloma and Lapa Rios located on each side of Corcovado National Park, we hike, kayak, snorkel, swim, and explore miles of wilderness trails and waterways among the rainforests, rivers, waterfalls and pristine tropical beaches of the Osa. Everywhere colorful scarlet macaws fly overhead and monkeys cavort in the forest canopy. We spot spectacular tropical bird species and are always on the lookout for tapir, anteaters, coatimundi, peccary herds and other wildlife. We travel by boat along the wilderness coastline to reach the Sirena Ranger Station where jungle cats including puma and jaguar roam, and then either hike or fly out of this jungle wilderness.  Local research biologists share firsthand the Yaguara Wild Cats Conservation Project supported by proceeds from your trip to protect the neotropical felines of the Osa.   We engage local people who share their stories about life in the wilds of Costa Rica.
